Olá! Olá! Olá! Olá!

That means HI in portugese... We have finally made it to Brasil after a lengthy journey through the Amazon. We are uploading pictures now so check back in the next few days for details of our crazy journey :)

We are currently in Jericoarcoara and LOVE it!  Its a beautiful place (and yes, we will post pics in the next few days!) with a lot of very friendly people.  Unfort we do not speak ANY Portugese and no one here speaks Spanish or English.  SO we have made friends with some nice people here and are learning a little more Portugese each day.

Yesterday we learned the days of the week....

The week starts on Sunday, Domingo
Then Monday is the 2nd day, Segunda-feira
Tuesday is the 3rd day, Terça-feira
Wed is the 4th day, Quarta-feira
Thursday is the 5th day, Quinta-feira
Friday is the 6th day, Sexta-feira
And then its Saturday, Sabado

OK, now you might wondering... Why is Monday the second fair and not the first?
That's because the first day is "God's day" - Domingo - from the Latin "domini", or God's day.
So, under the Portuguese culture, the first day of the week should be given to God as the creator of the universe.

How amazing is that?!?!

  1. Doesn't Jewish culture do the same? I think they start w/ Sunday (Sabbath Day) as well?
